Our Emergency Management/Security Services Unit: The Emergency Management and Security Services Unit covers a wide range of Parks Programs prioritizing education, customer service, park safety, enforcement as well as rapid response to emergencies throughout the department. The unit manager leads all Emergency Management for the Parks and Recreation Department, additionally overseeing the Park Ranger Program, departmentwide security staff, off-leash enforcement, a 24/7 dispatch program, and the Center City Parks Activation Coordinator who oversees Park Concierge and Park Ambassador staff.
About the Park Ambassador Program:
The Park Ambassador role is part of a high-profile initiative to create welcoming, safe and lively public spaces. Staff will be engaging with parkgoers in our largest and most popular parks. This role will provide safe and healthy recreational opportunities for park goers to enjoy during their visit. A Park Ambassador will observe park usage and make recommendations to the Program Coordinator. This role will rove proximate park locations for the full day including closing the beach at Alki Beach Park and Golden Gardens Park at 10pm each night. Park locations will be Alki Beach Park, Discovery Park, Gas Works Park, Genesee Park and Playfield, Golden Gardens Park, Green Lake Park, Judkins Park, Lincoln Park, Magnuson Park, Myrtle Edwards Park, Seward Park, Westcrest Park, and Lower Woodland Park.
Job Responsibilities
- Be familiar with Parks Code and comfortable discussing rules and regulations with public.
- Contact Park Rangers or Park Security for violations to Parks or Seattle Municipal Code, and guidelines such as amplified sound, checking permits, off-leash animals and smoking and liquor protocol in parks.
- Observe, listen, and share insights from the with Park Ambassador Program Coordinator.
- Closing Alki Beach Park and Golden Gardens Beach Park each day at 10pm along with other division and security staff. (if scheduled there).
- Submit an end of day report to Park Ambassador Program Coordinator.
- Assist in developing partnerships with internal and external organizations for recreational opportunities in parks.
- Provide direct service and lead recreational activities in various parks and spaces citywide.
- Develop and implement recreational programming throughout Park Ambassador Program sites city.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
One-year experience in a community-based recreation program and an associate degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work).

- Current, valid WA State Driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Current, valid CPR/First Aid Certification and/or renew/receive within 30 days of hire

The full salary range for this position is $20.75 - $ 33.33 per hour.
